Rocket science in rail batteries

The battery container for the on-board power supply of a rail vehicle should be lightweight. The requirements could not be met with conventional construction methods. So the experts at GW Batterien used materials that are otherwise used in aerospace, among other things – and created a genuine lightweight solution.

Delivery of a complete lightweight underfloor battery container for on-board power supply. Classification fire protection E 30 according to EN45545.

  • Special Challenge

The specified maximum weight could not be achieved with normal underfloor container construction.

  • Solution

110 V NiCd battery in a high-tech lightweight underfloor container with know-how from the space sector. Duration of the implementation in 58 weeks.

  • Added Value for the Customer

The specified maximum weight was still significantly undercut. This resulted in savings in the overall concept.
